They do like it pretty wet, but it doesn't have to be a bog. A lot of Vermonts woodlands have the right soil, especially near lakes regions. There's enough continuous moisture and soil acidity to support them. (I've actually never ventured into a bog, though they do exist around here.)
Love the winter foraging information. I wish I could find a guide for conformation on mushrooms. I have many books with the info. I only go after the morels at this point.
I honestly also wish there was one good book for beginners, but I haven't found it yet. I've cobbled together information from so many different sources, and I agree, it's frustrating. If you want to move beyond morels but still stick with easy to ID mushrooms, there are all great options: https://practicalselfreliance.com/edible-wild-mushrooms/
What a valuable article! Plaintain is a medicinal herb with so much value. Can you find cranberries anywhere else, other than bogs?

Good stuff 👍
Keep your toes warm.
Thanks Joe!

I was thinking about purchasing that oven. Where can you get small baking pans to put in it?
I just finished writing my review of it this evening actually, and I put together a list of about a dozen or so pans that work in it here: https://practicalselfreliance.com/instafire-ember-off-grid-oven-review/
