Ashley, just so you know, I live in the South. 96F and near 100% humidity is miserable here, too. I’ve been here 5 years this time and still have not gotten used to this oppressive duo.

HA...everytime I mention the weather here people in the south say "THATS NOTHING," finally good to get someone that's honest. Nope, it's not the worst that can be, but it is still nasty, and like swimming just walking down the sidewalk.

I’m kind of from here, NW GA, as my parents/grandparents are from here. When Dad retired from the Army, we moved here. I got married 6+ years later & moved to Montreal. We’ve moved a LOT the 48+ years of our marriage so far! I can tell you that I love seeing the sun most days, mountains, snow (!), four actual seasons, and low to moderate humidity. Denver CO was a favorite for both of us! So the no, I dislike summer here, and also winter, because of the humidity. 20F with wind here feels like -5F in the Colorado mountains!

Also, my niece said of one particularly gruesome day here, “ it’s a thousand degrees with a million degrees humidity!”

I wish that I could forage like you do. I have an allergy to bees and terrified of snakes. I do love your blog and have learned alot for you. Thank you!

Thank you Tracy! We're lucky here in that there are no poisonous snakes anywhere in VT. There are small mouser snakes and such, but nothing that would trouble a human in anyway. (Doesn't mean they don't still surprise you and make you jump now and again, but it helps to know that they can't really hurt you if you live here.)

I live at the base of a mountain in Pa. We have quite a few copperheads and rattlers. My hubby has a collection of skins to prove it. Perhaps I should move to VT?

VT is a whole different world that PA...no snakes is a nice perk, but it's not all rosy over here =)

Almost everyone calls me crazy, but I’m not afraid of snakes or other reptiles. I used to catch racers & others when I was a kid. Mom did her best to discourage this, but Dad grew up in the woods and would pick up, handle them, and point out why they weren’t poisonous. Then we’d pour over books (WAY before internet) and look at the differences between poisonous and non-poisonous snakes. I can’t tell the names of snakes, but sure can tell if they’re okay or not. Oh, and he’d point out poisonous plants, too. Sure wish that had stuck better.
