I have used Dr. Hartly's bonestitch tea for 3 of my broken bones and 2 sprains over the last 5 years. It has horsetail, neetle, pepperment and comfrey in it. I've given to others who break bones BUT do not start taking until a doctor assures the bones are aligned properly. AND when I took an herbal class the instructor told us comfrey should never be used more than 6 weeks during a 12 month period. So, my docs were all amazed by my rapid bone healing (I'm old 70+, but do eat well).
Side note -- had a bone density scan after most recent break and bones are fine (I broke 5 bones between ages 5-17) seems to be a balance problem - got physical thearpy for balance and keep doing the exercises and Thai Chi was added.
Ashley, did you know that a cat’s purr is the same frequency as electronic bone stimulators? Google can fill you in, there have been studies. So if you have a cat, have it sit on his foot. If nothing else, it will keep it warm.
Just a few decades ago, the government harassed and shut down those stores who sold Comfrey. They said it caused cancer in high doses (unbelievable amounts concentrated and given to rats). People were afraid to consume it because of this.
But, I believe animals understand more about plants than most people do.
I started growing Comfrey in the early 1980's. I would watch, on a regular basis, wild critters; squirrels, rabbits, etc. nibbling on the Comfrey leaves. They would never eat very much, just small amounts each visit. They never felt the need to see how much they could eat before getting sick or dying, like humans do. They didn't abuse it, like humans do. They just nibbled off what they felt they needed. Nothing more! Nothing less!
Exactly, Sheila! I have always grown comfrey. It is wonderful to use externally in root and leaf compresses wrapped over with bandage that one changes daily. I always wash then chew the roots first to soften them and crush the leaves a bit in my hand so they are bruised before I put over the damaged area.
When I had my farm, I had so many bruises that I would put Comfrey tincture in my bath water. After about a 45 minute soak, I would watch the bruises disappear.
Hi again Sheila! Thanks for this advice! I also used to live on a farm and was always getting bruised snd scratched. I also, on top of comfrey for worse injuries, used the gel of the bulbinella plant in South Africa for fast healing. It is similar to aloe vera. Now I am living on a small holding in France where planting new gardens and orchard I have plenty of scrapes and falls! I read in the Dr Mercola news letter a couple of years ago about using DMSO oil (wood pulp extract) for skin and muscle knocks. It is a miracle fast acting cure that is my "go to"!
I have been reading about DMSO, but I didn't realize it was from wood pulp oil. I'll have to do some more research on it.
I live in Northern Michigan were there's lots of trees we use, mostly pines and Birch for medicinal. Foraging is very cool here, although right now it's -14°F outside. Not very good weather for foraging, except for maybe running outside and grabbing some pine needles for some nice hot tea. 😆
It seems that tree bark.extracts are full of great medicine! I think.of willow bark/salix/aspirin with its pain relief, anti infammation and fever reducing properties, too. Recently, I had a depression head fracture resulting in nausea, severe headaches and neck pain. A friend in New Zealand suggedted that I start taking pine bark extract tablets It has been absolutely amazing! I bought it on Amazon. I am going to.an osteopath to correct my skull and supplementing with this.
We use homeopathics and biomagnetic therapy for broken bones (and many other things). Arnica 200 and Symphytum 200 are fantastic. Of course it's the homeopathic version of Comfrey. Rest up!
Thirty year proactive nurse and certified energy worker here. In 2016 I had an incredible injury at work which left me with a completely torn R rotator cuff (L shoulder torn, too) and yes, I had to wear "THE BOOT" too (cue, burst into tears!). To heal swiftly (anytime) I employ energetic and orthomolecular practices. Protein first at every meal, Vit C in divided doses throughout each day, D3 with K2 and magnesium (better absorption) each evening (aids sleep induction) and colorful, low carb diet (sugar is not our friend) to boost internal immune system. As our bodies are powered by electricity, regular energy work to 'reboot' our body is a must! We recharge our phone batteries routinely, how often do we recharge our body? Learning to work WITH our body hastens healing. Lastly, red light therapy several times a week sped up the process. The surgeon, and his team, were impressed with my swift recovery! Please research further: Orthomolecular.org, PubMed (not Google!), Healing Beyond Borders, DrClarkStore.com (research-based succinct blog, too!), endalldisease.com (red light). Hears to a SPEEDY RECOVERY!!! Blessings, Always ~ Paula Powers
When we have a broken bone comfrey is our first go to, I wonder if you can get any salve on his foot once the swelling and pain goes down, or even across his toes at first? Put it on a tongue depressor or something like that once the cast has a bit of a gap put some on the area, the comfrey salve even works on my creaking knees to quiet them down. Increase natural foods like bone broth, eggs and dairy for calcium, vitamin levels and minerals. Have him sit in the Sunshine! After the cast comes off, soaking in comfrey is very beneficial, along with the addition of Epsom salt helps with the dead skin removal for maximum benefit.
I have found some fabulous bone and torn muscle treatments: I made comfrey root compresses and took arnica tablets for the broken bones in my right foot that took 6 weeks to completely heal. I didn't know what I know today!
My go to a week ago when I sprained my ankle badly when slipping on uneven icy ground - I literally felt the rip of flesh - has been DMSO oil (wood pulp extract) and Arnica tablets and taking a teaspoon of castor x3 a day. I also hot/cold watered my foot every two hours for the first two days. The first night it was very painful, but after that the pain was gone! I am 100 % healed now with only a light yellowing purple mark on my foot and around the ankle. In three days I was back walking on my foot! DMSO is fabulous for pain and swelling. I also make ginger and tumeric tea when I have any condition with swelling. Hope this can help someone! Kind regards. Diana
OH GOSH, TY!!!!! I have Severely Advanced Osteoporosis & have already had my neck broken & then lost all my teeth. Then 5 yrs after my neck surgery that took (15) 1.5in. screw, a long Titanium rod & plate & all but 2 neck vertebrates to be bone grafted & fused together to regrow my neck back together, I fell down & shattered 7 more vertebrae’s in my back btwn’ my shoulder blades & within 4 more years my spinal column had collapsed & compressed by 5 more inches. Now I’m fighting for my life on a day to day basis & have trouble w/ my Cardiovascular System, due to the gunk the Covid spike protein & the virus left in my veins & then now my lymphatic system is backing up & I’m swelling up. But additionally I have Tons of Gastrointestinal issues that are probably goi g to be the end of me. But I’m not gonna give up just yet. But I’m already bedfast most of the time& can hardly take care of myself very easily anymore. So I’m always looking for ways to get more healthy ways than Big Pharma to help me & poss’ save my life. Thank you for all the bone information!!!
OH LORD, THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH, That means the World to Me!!! I Can’t even begin to Tell You how much I Truly Appreciate All & ANY PRAYERS!!!!! God Bless U & Ur Loved Ones Too!!! 🙏✝️🔥🌹🐾💕🫶✨
Locate a Chinese Medicine or holistic Chiropractor STAT! You CAN rebuild bone and working with someone trained (medical doctors receive little or no nutrional training) who understands the dynamics of internal homeostasis will set you on the right path. Correcting deficiences within is a great starting point. You are the CEO of your health, yes? There are methods to remove lingering C*vid etiology, too. Best, Paula Powers
Woww, How Inspiring U Are, Thank You! I haven’t had anyone say anything about any of this & just haven’t said anything at all & I’ve already been thinking about getting my final affairs in order & everything bc it’s been such a Huge Setback & Ordeal. I’d heard that some ppl’ find help, but had no idea or clue of how to go about it, That makes alot of sense too, I Sure Do Thank you!!!
Hi Ashley, This was such a lovely and beautiful read! Thanks so much for sharing! I hope your husband recovers soon and that you get a little time for rest and recovery too!
Ah... Ashley it came to your home through the husband leg. I also thought I'm strong and positioned myself as an experiences lumberjack and a logger. Regardless of the fact I bought my land in 2020 and start clearing in 2022.
A result of being naive appeared immediately : broken leg with two fractures. I paid my toll for stupidity and lack of experience.
Long story short ( because next year the same forest decided to kill me completely by breaking my scull and 4 ribs) I discovered raw Shilajit from Mongolian desert.
My surgery doctor did not believe in my fast recovery but taken every 2 weeks X-Rays convinced him
Well, being 191 lbs and 5'8" I started with 2 grams a day ( 1 in the morning and 1 at night) with warm water, after 6 week I switched to 1 gr a day.
So, instead of projected 6 months ( well 9 titanium crews + 1 titanium plate now stay inside my bones) I start walking in 8 weeks.
If you have an access to really raw Shilajit ( not in capsules, not in tablets and definitely not in a liquid form) , push your man to consume it with meal daily. Force him to be disciplined. Stay away of Amazon's "Himalayan shilajit" , it s a BS.
As a side effect his erection can come out of control but I think its finally not a bad side effect for an adult and married man.
Take care of your husband ! Stay healthy and live longer !
Really appreicate the nuance around comfrey here. The folk name knitbone gets thrown around so casually but themodern safety context is rarely mentioned. I broke my wrist last year and used St. John's Wort oil through recovery, dunno if it was placebo but the nerve pain vanished way faster than expected.
Comfrey has gotten a really bad rap from the pharma industrial complex, one of my friends is Swedish and told me once that his 90 year old grandmother had a cupa comfrey tea every day.

That's fabulous!
If the pilgrims to this country first knew about pine trees, not so many would have died, especially from scurvy.
Pine trees are amazing!
With the Birch, we get chaga. It's a cool growth, kind of like a big wart on the tree. It's a type of fungus that's highly medicinal.
Fungi, in all forms, are amazing, also.

Great combination! I have cream of each that I use all the time.

Good article! Makes me want oxtail ragu. It's one of those low and slow meals perfect for the slower days of winter.
