My Harvest Right is going non-stop. Taking care of the fall veggies before they start regrowing although I did miss a basket of potatoes, but the chicks/turkeys enjoyed them. Too small to use to regrow.

Finishing up all the winter projects and cleaning. Repairing clothing that has been sitting in my basket for months.

Learning about self-defense and weapons safety.

Walking the property. Making plans. Dreaming of projects.

Wishing I was younger. But forging ahead regardless. Trying to keep the madness of the world from destroying my soul. But still trying to be a force of good in my community.

what i found to do is plant seeds in your first row then move over approx 10 to 12 inches and plant another row the next row move over approx 18 inches then plant 2 more rows like the first. you will still have to weed until the plants are large enough at that time the plants will create a canopy that will keep the weeds to grown this will work for beans peas and anything else that creates quite a bit of leaves works very well on green beans carrots turnips etc can be planted the same way. you will have to experment with what you are planting. if you use commercial fertilizer you only need to fertilize one side of the plants hopefully i have explained this enough if not please let me know and i shall try and clear things up. let me know thanks cairyn

"Strappy dresses and sandals" had me laughing which induced more coughing as I recover from some kind of nasty cold virus. I still have about a foot of snow in most places though the pasture has melted. The leeks I left to go to seed last year survived though they are looking a bit rough. We are headed to the WA coast for 4 days - this is my pre-gardening rest and relaxation trip. When I return I start sowing seeds in my indoor growing station, and begin the season. After 3 decades of growing food and medicine, I am always amazed at how excited I become in anticipation of the growing season.

Always enjoy your articles even though I live in Florida and will never have the opportunity to try some of the Vermont things you enjoy, however a friend who has a number of geese and brought me some goose eggs in trade for some bread that was given to me, commercial bread that is primarily only good for animals, he has about 100 chickens so I get bread for him regularly, and I have been wondering what to do with them so your article came just in time! I have friends in Minnesota that I have visited and the first time I was there it was -37 when we got there but it warmed to the 20s the next day and we thought it was summer so I know what you mean about the temperature changes. Keep up the good work and try to stay warm!

In touting Wild Grains Bakery products. Have you given any thought to the carbon footprint that is involved in such an enterprise?

How much of the packaging is biodegradable after use? I'm very interested in subscribing. But am reluctant as this enterprise doesn't seem a "Sustainable" business, in the definition of my experience of Farming in New England. The cost alone would be prohibitive to most of my fellow subsistence and Market Farmers.

I do love my fresh baked breads and rolls!

Happy Farming!

Do you have advice for encouraging broody/ parental behavior in geese? I have a small flock that’s building a nest which they are very territorial around but not sitting the eggs yet.
